Remember ‘CO2ME OFF IT’ day?
Well - hence-fourth - it’s back ON – on the fourth - of every month.
- 4th November 2009
- 4th December 2009
- 4th January 2010, etc
Feel the fourth - on CO2ME OFF IT day - 4 Kids Sake
Light a (candoo) candle - for all the ‘hopeless’ cases/causes in the world
On the 4th of the month, (until fourther notice :o) anyone and everyone is invited to participate - in a very simple ritual - (from 4 a.m. onwards, but later is ok) - simply to light a candle, and rebuild some solidarity of hope together J
Comedians amongst us are welcome to light four candles, king size if you must*
The health and safety conscious are invited to light’em up’.
The H&S unconscious are instructed to be careful, and to be 100% safe.
The religious are invited to view this as non-religious but love based.
The thoughtful are invited to do this for pure meaningless childish wonder-ful fun.
The flippant are invited to step up, stop it, and be serious for once ;-)
*White van man is invited to take the piss, ruthlessly, but light up privately anyway.
You are invited to tailor this thing as much as you need - until it feels good - for you.
Any candle will do
Just light a candle, in support of all the ‘hopeless causes’ around the world.
In support of all those who are battling, against impossible odds: to get better... to be released... to survive... to make peace... to make it through...
And in particular, but not exclusively, for tomorrow’s child.
Finally, for our Mum: Earth that is: remembering how we loved, and still love the children’s garden that is our one Home.
The idea is simple
We light the candle to kick start the engines of the ‘infinite improbability drive’ (Douglas N Adams) that will carry us all back home now, to safety, away from the carbon- and cultural- black hole of infinite growth, and separation.
Scared of The Dark?
Sometimes we need to come off that high horse, that habitual hopelessness horror movie hangman’s noose – and relax, trust, and light a candle instead:
and imagine with wonder what our children’s Home could look like.
IF it’s true that it’s actually looking a wee bit hopeless now- gulp - (intellectually, socially, and politically) that we are going to be able to turn this Oil Powered Titanic around, in time, then the ONE (and only?) thing we need, in bucket loads (of drops in the ocean) is hope. And belief that together we can do the work that’s needed, to pull off the miracle, against all odds.
Bob the Builder got their before Barack Obama. Can we fix it? Yes we can.
Light a candoo candle, and feel the amazing force, of people power.
Clearly this simple ritual needs to catch on.. (not catch fire).
We need 120 people-candelas : to match (sic) a 100 watt incandescent bulb.
But there are plenty of us :o)
Light up.
That’s all.
It’s that simple.
Enjoy it. Be the candle.
Tailor it to your own needs.
Don’t feel forthed to do anything J Feel free to combine it - with a meditation.. a prayer.. a chant.. or just some quiet time.. (you and 6 billion others?!)
Perhaps contemplate the beauty, the symbolism, the power and the peace of the candle as the precious wax fuel (use bees-wax if you like) burns in the air we breathe, like magic, into heat, light, inspiration... and CO2.
Use this hope, this insight, this small still awareness, to power your whole day, on the fourth, in as low a carbon a way as you feel you want to, whilst still attending to all that you need to do. No pressure. Just do what you candoo!
But most of all let the candle heal you, yours, your place, your town, your world.
How to Light a Candle in the dark - one Suggestion:
ON the third day of every month, go to bed prepared: with candle and match!
If you like, set your alarm for 4 am. A wonder-ful time of day.
If you are not bolt wide awake at 4am, then do it later ‘Ron’ - when you are.
With as much symbolic leadership as feels right to you, light the candle.
With as much spiritual or sacred reverence you are comfortable with - no more, no less - just do it!
Place it somewhere rock solid and safe and stay with it while it’s lit.
Do it with peace in your heart, thinking of someone/thing you love, and with stillness in your soul.
Contemplate tomorrows child – and Mother Earth – and the eternal power of one candle - to inspire heal and enlighten.
Some of you may wish to light a night-light in the window too – visible to others in your local community.
Enjoy.
Dave,
Thanks for sharing so much inspiration to connect with more like minded people so we can raise awareness of how doing simple things like lighting a candle can do wonders for ourselves, planet,romance..
Namaste.

Better light a candle than curse the darkness.
